The re-admission trigger in CRAB Medical

The re-admission trigger captures all admissions for day cases and inpatients. In CRAB system the admission report can give a ‘false’ for re-admission in the patient summary but the trigger for re-admission to hospital within 30 days is alerting. There may be a couple of explanations for the 'false' re-admission record: 1) the patient summary record may be of a patient that was readmitted from a previous episode within 30 days, in which case the Readmission: false, relates to any subsequent readmission. 2) The patient was a planned re-attendance vs a re-admission - technically this is coded as a re-admission trigger under HES data. We have developed a module to split such codes out into planned re-attendances vs re-admissions with the same primary code vs re-admission with a different primary code etc. See attached: CRAB Patients: Where they are reported in the modules for reference.
